Ronny Chieng

comedian and actor. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent for The Daily
Show on Comedy Central. He also created and plays the lead role in the sitcom
Ronny Chieng International Student, which premiered on ABC Australia
(Australia) in the year 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an
Malaysian Chinese family. Chieng was raised in Singapore as well as the United
States. He lived in Manchester, New Hampshire, between 1989 and 1994. Chieng
performed alongside Trevor Noah in 2013 at the comedy festival in Melbourne,
Australia. Chieng was then asked to be a candidate for the role of
correspondent on Noah's Daily Show two years after. In July 2016 Chieng was
named one of the top 10 comics to Watch by Variety In October 2016, Chieng
appeared on The Daily Show to provide his response to a Jesse Watters Fox News
segment that was criticized by some as being racist. Chieng expressed his opinion
with a lot of expletive about the segment from Fox News, the conservative
network. He also visited New York City's Chinatown. Watters had mocked the
residents there and conducted respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese and
Cantonese. The viral video garnered attention in Slate and the Washington Post.
In his youth, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Chieng has not been able to
obtain citizenship or permanent residency in Australia despite living in
Australia for ten years. Chieng laughed in 2018 when he said it was cynophobic.
However, he later said that he was 100 % unafraid of dogs.
